Large Group Mediation
Aligning diverse perspectives to build consensus on complex, multi-party issues.
Description
Large Group Mediation is best for large family disputes, community development disputes, public policy decisions, environmental agreements, HOA/homeowner disputes, or multi-organization joint ventures where there is conflict. It keeps large, high-emotion meetings organized, productive, and focused on outcomes and gives every stakeholder a voice, ensuring buy-in from everyone for final agreements.
Mediation Stages
Stage 1: Introduction & Guidelines
The mediator introduces the goals and ground rules for the mediation process.
Stage 2: Information Gathering and Clarifying
Each party shares their perspective on the conflict. The mediator facilitates discussion, asks clarifying questions, and identifies common ground.
Stage 3: Listing Topics
Topics are the things the parties would like to make solutions for. The mediator lists the topics identified in Stage 2. Once both parties confirm the topics accurately reflect what needs to be resolved, the process moves forward.
Stage 4: Brainstorming
Parties brainstorm solutions for each topic, select mutually agreeable ideas, and work through the details to make them practical.
Stage 5: Plan Finalization & Signing
The parties decide if they want a verbal or written agreement. If the parties want the agreement written, the mediator drafts a summary for both parties to review, sign, and keep, which may serve as a legally binding contract.
